On Writing Blog #1

I just finished reading the first 100 pages of On Writing By: Stephen King.  I found the first section of this book; C.V., to be very interesting.  There were many stories that King recalled in his writing that I found funny and some that were just pointless in my eyes.  I would like to know what the word gullet means that King used on page 13.  One part of the book that really caught my attention was the feeling of hope that King's mother gave him as a child.  When she first read his copied story and told him to write one of his own it really opened his eyes to a world of possibility in writing.  At one point in the book King was explaining what he wanted as a 13 year old as opposed to normal 13 year olds.  When reading what he wanted I thought that he was a very troubled young boy.  As I was reading about King's book The Shining(before he tells of his drug problem) I kind of felt like he was foreshadowing about his life because he had talked about being drunk while writing the story.  I find it quite amazing that he was able to come out of such a hard drug and alcohol addiction and still be the writer that he is today.  I also didn't completely understand his saying "life isn't the support system for art, it's the other way around."  Although I put reading off this section of to the last minute it turned out to be an alright read.  The cursing was a little odd at times because sometimes he just cussed and it didn't make any sense.  Other than that I have no complaints about the first section of the book.
